Again... it's the end of the semester, some of students just finished their assessment and for the final year students still struggling for the final. I hope all the juniors can give them a hand cos this is a way to get an experience. For the final year students, good luck to all of you, it might have been easy or hard you may have studied. Any way you do it, if you do that well, you will pass with flying colors and... see you at the runway!

Fashion Trip: 13-15 March 09

It's been quite some time I didn't update this blog, so... hello again! Just want to announce that our Fashion Department's Trip '09 date is on 13-15 March 09. Maybe it's a little bit not a good time for all of you due to final exam/assessment but that's the only date that available and let's pray no more delay. Hey you all...! Regarding our trip to Penang, sadly... it's was postponed due to University's Program on a same date that we chose before. Nevertheless, don't worry the trip still ON! The lecturer will choose another suitable date. Look at the bright side, in a mean time we still can save some money to pay the trip fees, or....... we can go to Rihanna's concert on the 13th, hahahaha...

Thousand of apologize to all of you, this is beyond of our expectation, let's pray and hope no more changes/postpone on the date! Please contact lecturer for more information, thank you!

Fashion Dept. Trip 2009

Make sure you make yourself available on 13,14&15 February because this is what we are waiting for, let's spend 3 days & 2 nights together at Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel, Penang with it's own private stretch of beach front. Full of interesting activities and get ready to dress up for our Grand Fashion Night dinner. Whoever missed last year's trip, hopefully you can participate this time, furthermore it's compulsory now :) Don't worry, it's gonna absolutely fun and worth it. Pack your bags, put on your shades and let's rejuvenate ourselves!

This Way to Fashion

Our 'bengkel' minor renovation has been completed for a week now, we got a new paint job which is brown, oklaa kan... it's a standard colour given by UiTM, new window and other small things. Just to make our 'bengkel' ceria a bit, the lecturer decided to design and print on a sticker and install on the wall, it turns out very nice and interesting i think. Ok guys, together we keep our place chill and cool!

It is just a week before we say goodbye to 2008 and welcome 2009, can you believe it?! Regardless of how quickly the year has gone far for us, I'm glad that I spent it with all of you. I hope that 2008 has treated you as well as you deserve. By the way, this a new semester coming. How's the last semester's exam/assessment result for each one of you? If it not so good work harder, if its excellent, maintain and sustain it!

One more thing, our 'Bengkel' renovation has been completed and ready to serve you guys! As I said before, it's not a major renovation, but it is still better than before. A few things need to be done to make our 'Bengkel' more 'ceria' and I'm still working on it. Hope a small things can make a different, and I definitely will upload the photos soon!

Last but not least, thank you for all supporting Fashion Department Blog by logging in, commenting, sharing & writing about our Blog, hopefully more students will joining in. Even this blog not always updated, at-least we have something to share and talk about. Beside with my hectic schedule, maybe next year I will try my best to update this blog as much as I can. We have built something special here which is a place to enjoy fashion design.

Wondering what happened to our 'bengkel' during semester break? Well I guess the 'bengkel' never get a break, it was renovated since early this month. The renovation still in progress which is involved a small section in our 'bengkel' especially we will get a new paint job, brand new window, of-course much more better than previous one :) The rest... we just wait and see until it complete soon.

Maybe it's not a major renovation then, but somehow, hmmm... it made our 'bengkel' upgraded since... i don't know, maybe since Fashion Dept. was opened. Hopefully we will appreciate it and just take a good care of it!

After struggling for final exam and assessment, maybe it's not to late to wish everybody Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha & Happy Holiday! I know everyone is going everywhere, somewhere and hopefully this semester break will be a good time for us to refresh and rejuvenate ourselves. Your result will be out in any time and I wish you guys all the best, see you next semester...and it's gonna be a fun semester!

Final Assessment

At the end of their final year students produce a collection which is then shown on runway to lecturers, fellow students, parents and buyers and prospective employers at the fashion show. This event is an event put on by a Fashion Department to showcase student's upcoming line of clothing every end of semester. This year, 'DIVERSITY & UNITY' become our theme. For more information I will update this blog as soon as possible.

Our Fashion Dept. earlier this week hosted fourteen visiting foreign students who are from Hachiman High School, Japan. It's an event that they wanting to explore each other‘s culture more. Here at 'Bengkel Fashion' the lecturer teach them how to make 'Baju Kurung Kedah' because it is easy and simple to make in a short time. Because of the language barrier, we have a bit difficulty to communicate with them but everything going well. Last, but not least thanks to all the students who assist during the event. You guys doing a great job.

We expect that by engaging in this type of program, both sides will gain a better understanding of other cultures and broaden their horizons. Maybe our Fashion student will visit to other country someday? Hopefully...

Another successful Fashion Department trip! We spent 3 days at the place where strawberry and tea plantations are popular and a cool climate, where else..it's Cameron Highland. Organized by lecturers and committee, the trips are full with interesting activities and programs, but yet we still have time to shopping, sightseeing, exploring and much more.

Whoever missed it, hopefully you can join and participate and enjoy our next coming trip. Trust me, it's worth it!

On 18th September 08, Fashion Department had our breaking fast at our famous 'bengkel' :) . Attended by fashion students and lecturers, the event last up till 8.30pm. This is the first time Fashion Deparment having the break fast here and for sure there will be next year to look ahead. Thanks to the organizer for being a good host during the event, and thanks a lot to all the students who attend for this event and anyone who missed it, hopefully we will see you next year.

The Official Fashion Department's 2008 T-shirt is born! Finally we have our own merchandise, maybe it's only the beginning and hopefully more products to come. Anyway, we like to keep things simple for the design, because I believe we are creative people that take the complexity out of simplicity. It's simple, relevant and effective graphic design.

A lot of people think a simple basic t-shirt is very boring. But it isn't...it's very useful and you can wear anything at it. Pair it with your vest, jacket, accessories...and more. Well, it's only cost you RM25, fabric made with 100% cotton. Please contact FASTO's member if interested.

The fashion design program offers the broad-based training in creativity, and design, with the technical, and production processes which are supported by theoretical knowledge, to encourage creativity and innovation. Students are trained to be more creative, skillful, and knowledgeable. Graduates are prepared to participate in related area of fashion design, entrepreneurship, costume, and clothing industries. An integral aspect of the course is in the hands-on experiences provided for the students in their practical training. This is reinforced by extra-curricular activities such as exhibitions, competitions, fieldworks, and life projects.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduate of this program may be employed as fashion designers in the fashion, and clothing industries, marketing, and personnel, fashion writers or journalism, lecturer in the academic institutions, designers, and manufactures, fashion illustration, freelance consultancy, costume designers in entertainments, and films productions, and new area related to the fashion business, and lifestyle and work on real projects within a commercial environment.

COURSEWORK AND ASSESSMENT

Teaching is through group, tutorial, practical, lecture and independent study. All course is assessed regularly (Progressive Assessment) and final assessment is given at the end if each semester, and exams for liberal studies.
